Crane Museum Crane Park Izumi

This is the only crane museum in Japan where visitors can learn about the detailed ecology of cranes and the relationship between cranes and people.

The exterior of the building is based on the image of a parent crane holding an egg and its young cranes cuddling up to it. The museum provides information not only on cranes but also on wild birds and nature in Demizu through nature observation events, public lectures, and lectures, and also holds various special exhibitions and classes.

Visitors during the season when cranes are not present can also become familiar with the rich nature of the Demizu Plain.

Today, more than 10,000 cranes visit Japan. Just as the crested ibis, which once ranged throughout Japan, has become extinct, the habitat for large birds has been lost with the advance of urbanization, making it increasingly difficult to interact and coexist with nature and wildlife. Against this backdrop, a facility was built in the center of a large site to introduce cranes.

On either side are artificial, formative spaces that deepen communication between visitors, and natural, less frequented spaces. These spaces express siberism through four stone gates.

In the natural space, a swamp pond is recreated and a forest is planned with aquatic plants, wetland plants, and local tree species to recreate the natural ecosystem of Demizu and to serve as a habitat for wild birds.
