A trolley ride to see the exciting tunnels and caves

The Shochu Storehouse, built on the ruins of a gold mine shaft, is not just a tourist attraction, but a special place where real shochu is made, from brewing to storage. The aboveground facilities include a restaurant called “Hotaruan” and a shopping area called “Kurano-Nakamise. Visitors can enter the storage warehouse in the tunnels by riding on a special trolley train. And here, visitors can make their own anniversary shochu by laying down the shochu purchased at the aboveground facilities for the period of their choice. It is also reputed to be the only sake brewery in the prefecture.

From JR Kushikino Station, take a local bus bound for Kawauchi. Get off at “Noshita-guchi” bus stop. 5 minutes on foot.
