Suna Mushi Onsen Ibusuki Hakusuikan

Ibusuki Hakusuikan is a representative hot spring ryokan of Ibusuki Onsen, where you can enjoy the charms of Japanese-style ryokan, such as the scenery surrounded by blue sea and greenery, Ibusuki’s unique sand baths, and the Genroku baths.

Ibusuki Hakusuikan is a long-established ryokan established in 1947. Originally started as Kagoshima Hakusuikan in Kagoshima City, it was moved to its current location in 1960 and newly established as Ibusuki Hakusuikan.

The expansive grounds include a pine garden, the main building, four guest room buildings, a swimming pool, and the Satsuma Lore Museum, where visitors can enjoy their free time. There are various types of guest rooms, including those with ocean views and those with hinoki baths.

In the lobby, there is a lounge where you can enjoy a cup of coffee while admiring the beautiful garden and feel the tropical mood.

There are four types of guest rooms: Rikyu, Iso Kyakuden, Hana no Mune, and Satsuma Kyakuden, and you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

One of the most popular guest rooms, Rikyu, offers ocean views and spaciousness. Guests can enjoy a 180-degree panoramic view from their rooms and have a moment of relaxation in the beauty of nature.

Ibusuki Hakusuikan also offers a variety of baths. In particular, the “Genroku Bath,” which is reminiscent of the Edo period (1603-1867), is a large bath decorated with ukiyo-e woodblock prints and has a striking visual impact. The spring water contains abundant metasilicic acid and is known for being gentle on the skin.

The open-air bath is recommended at night, as it offers a star-filled view.

Don’t miss Ibusuki’s famous suna-mushi hot springs, where the moderate weight of the sand and the hot spring ingredients soothe away the body’s fatigue.

Satsuma Folklore Museum: A place to learn about the history and culture of Satsuma

Opened in 2008, the museum is known as a place to learn about the history and culture of Satsuma. The museum exhibits valuable Satsuma pottery, paintings, and calligraphy of great people collected by Ibusuki Hakusuikan over the years.

A particular highlight is a room called “Kinran-no-Ma,” which was built using 10,000 pieces of pure gold leaf. This room was built in the image of a European palace to commemorate the high acclaim that Satsuma porcelain (white Satsuma) received at the Paris Expo. You will be impressed by its gorgeous beauty.

The Satsuma Lore Museum also has a café & store and a restaurant, Italian Fenice. The corridor connecting the museum and the cafe & store is also a photogenic spot.

Shochu Dojo: A luxurious place to sample fantastic shochu

At Shochu Dojo, visitors can sample a variety of Kagoshima’s sweet potato shochu free of charge before dinner. It is a luxurious experience where you can also sample the fantastic shochu “Moriizo”. You can try the shochu before your meal.

Satsumayashiki: Taste Kaiseki cuisine using local ingredients

Meals can be enjoyed at the private ryokan restaurant Satsumayashiki. Here you will be served kaiseki cuisine that lavishly uses seasonal ingredients. Each dish is served one at a time, allowing you to savor it at your leisure.

For example, the Kurobuta pork stew is so tender that it falls apart when you put your chopsticks into it. You can also enjoy other Kagoshima gastronomic delights such as seafood caught in Kinko Bay and Japanese black beef.

In addition to the cuisine, the restaurant is particular about the selection of tableware. The tableware selected by the chairman of Ibusuki Hakusuikan, who has a deep knowledge of art, enhances the deliciousness of the cuisine.

You can also enjoy Kagoshima’s famous “Saigo-Don Steamed” dish. This dish is an excellent way to enjoy Kagoshima’s specialties such as eel, lye rolls, and dried bonito sake pilferage all at once.

Relax at night: Enjoy the illuminated Satsuma Lore Museum

After filling up, we went for a night stroll. At night, the illuminated Satsuma Lore Museum is so fantastic that you feel as if you have wandered into a movie world. We enjoyed a blissful moment with a pleasant night breeze.

Morning Fun: Enjoying a Delicious Buffet

At Ibusuki Hakusuikan, you can choose between Japanese set meals and a buffet breakfast. The buffet is popular with people of all ages, offering a wide variety of Japanese and Western dishes, salads, fruit, and more.

Ibusuki Hakusuikan is also the site of the Shogi (Japanese chess) world’s Ryuoh Tournament. It is also a good place to experience the first-rate service backed by the trust and achievements of the hotel.
