Kagoshima » Kagoshima city, Sakurajima, Kirishima
The Sakurajima Visitor Center is a science exhibition hall featuring the nature of Sakurajima and Kirishima Kinko Bay National Park.
It has an eruption experience corner, an exhibit on the history and growth of Sakurajima, an exhibit on the evolution of Sakurajima’s eruptions and plants, an exhibit on the creatures of Kinko Bay, and disaster prevention activities.
Visitors can experience the grandeur of the living Sakurajima through a large-screen theater and dioramas. Visitors can also enjoy a computer quiz corner.
The store corner has books about Kagoshima and Sakurajima, as well as a variety of Sakurajima’s specialties available only here. Original towels are also available for purchase in case you feel like taking a dip in the nearby footbath.
In addition, a sports bicycle rental service is available, and visitors can enjoy a round-the-clock tour of Sakurajima starting from here.
The center was built amidst the lava flow from Sakurajima’s great eruption in the Taisho era (1912-1926), and the surrounding landscape tells the story of the explosion at that time.
There are also many tourist and public facilities nearby, such as Sakurajima Sea Fishing Park, Rainbow Sakurajima National Hotel, Sakurajima Magma Hot Springs, Lava Nagisa Park, and a footbath.
